Happy New Year!

2015

Hello Readers!

I have been thinking for days on how I wanted to close out 2014 on my blog…from sappy to silly…and I decided in the end to keep it simple!

2014 was an awesome year for me, full of new experiences I have enjoyed immensely. I am so happy to have shared 2014 with my friends, ones I have had since before 2014, and ones I had the pleasure to make in 2014. I look forward to what 2015 has to bring.

With the end of one year it is normal, and perhaps traditional, to close doors on aspects of our lives…not for negative reasons, but because the time has come. When reflecting on my Second Life, what I have accomplished and where my passion lies, I have decided to close the doors on the competition portion of my virtual modeling career as well as being a regular contributing writer to Style Kingdom and Cultured the Magazine. I of course am not retiring from modeling or writing, but I am redirecting my focus in both areas. 2015 promises to be a very exciting year for me in terms of projects and I am very eager to get started.

Miss Virtual World 2015 was an amazing experience and was everything I needed and wanted it to be as I knew going into it, that it would be the last competition to me. And as I have said to many friends, what better competition to end on than MVW? I have been writing for SL magazines since 2012, starting with AVENUE who gave me my start in everything that had to do with the SL fashion scene. I have met some of the most wonderful people on the grid all because of one itch I just HAD to scratch. I would not be where I am now, nor met all of the incredible people I have met, had it not been for that very fortuitous beginning. It has been an absolute pleasure to write for Style Kingdom and Cultured the Magazine and I will remain involved with both organizations.

As an aside, I will share my handy WordPress Year End Blog report. This year was a big one for me in terms of blogging and I am pleased with my growth. I would not have had any blogging successes and growth without YOU, those who take the time to read and comment on my blog and I thank you for that. I wish you all a very prosperous 2015!

Heartfelt thanks,

Style Kingdom Magazine Casting: Styling Challenge #3

Hello Readers!

I have to say I LOVED the third styling challenge issued by Style Kingdom.  The theme was Gareth Pugh winter inspired.  We were given this video to watch: Gareth Pugh Autumn Winter 2013 Runway Collection. I was completely entranced. I lost track of how many times I watched the video, taking in every bit of it, and then madly searching SL for anything remotely similar.  To all the designers out there, I would LOVE a jacket in the style of any of the ones in the video.  I looked all over SL for one like those that dominated the runway in that show, and sadly none could be found. However, I did find a lovely jacket that helped me pull off a Gareth Pugh inspired winter look.

pugh2_002 dress > Paper Couture – Victoria in black

pugh_003jacket > [sYs] MORPHEO – jacket F (black)

gloves > .Shi : Fingerless Gloves [Female] *RARE* @ The September Arcade

pugh_002hair > (red)Mint Hair No.14’13 ~ Black

eyeshadow > Zibska – EmilyTries ~ Black

lipstick > [mock] Mizu Chrome Lip Gloss (1) (Lip only)

On the whole I did well on the challenge. (You can see the results here.) The judges were very complimentary in their comments.  SL however seemed to think a “noob” turn would compliment the look, and the judges disagreed, costing me some valuable points.  I am disappointed that an SL glitch would cost me points, but what’s done is done. I am still in good standing with the judges and I look forward to the final challenge!

As always, thank you for reading!

Style Kingdom Magazine Casting: Styling Challenge #1

Hello Readers!

I just had to squeeze in another post before my RL makes off with me again!  Thankfully I took the photos for this blog post last week so I can write about them now!

Style Kingdom Magazine is currently casting for a new model for its pages.  This casting is different than others I have encountered because they are looking for new/inexperienced models. I graduated from AVENUE Models Academy this past July, so I wasn’t certain I would qualify as the casting notice said modeling certificates were not required.  I was glad to learn that my shiny new certificate did not disqualify me. I just don’t have the time some do to attend academy after academy, and I felt AVENUE’s classes more than prepared me for the world of SL fashion.  So modeling certificate aside, my modeling resume is pretty short compared to many.  However, I am working it and trying to get myself out there and on the runway, so I am sure that won’t be the case for long!

One of the things I enjoyed about my AVENUE classes was the homework.  I thought this was mainly due to me being an educator and a nerd in RL who actually enjoys homework.  I realized as I spent hours painstakingly analyzing my styling and second guessing myself, that I enjoyed the creative process of styling challenges.  Second Life was just the medium I needed to express my own creativity.  I am no builder or designer – I am a writer, a role player and a model.  SL has helped me achieve things I never thought I would be able to in RL, become a published writer, an actress (via role play), and fulfill my childhood dream of being a model.

I apparently am also the queen of tangents!  So let’s get to the styling shall we?  The challenge was “Asian Invasion.”  I LOVED this theme!  I immediately got to searching and talking with my sister/stylist/confidant Liat.  In the end, this is what emerged:

Overall I was pleased with the result and it appeared the judges were as well!  You can read the public scoring here.  The second challenge was “Film Noir.”  This one proved to be a bit more of a challenge for me and I deliberated over it as I do with each of my stylings.  In the end I was pleased with it as well and will be blogging it soon!

Thanks for reading!
