Chasing Koko

Hello Readers!

I think I am giddy because I have had a LONG and mildly stressful week in RL thanks to work and it is FRIDAY!  I love looking at my friends’ Flickr streams and appreciating their work.  I came across one by my dear friend (and sim-mate) Nariko and I was inspired to mimic her.  Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery right? *winks*  Here is Nariko’s (aka Koko) image, posted today in honor of the latest issue of Style Kingdom, which is the debut for both of us in this wonderful publication. Click HERE to see Nariko and click HERE to see me…we both had the pleasure of being photographed by the very talented Pam Astonia. So here is my rendition, done in what I affectionately call “Koko Style.” (I hope you can see by now that my legacy name was not completely off base! *chuckles*)

I need to get sappy for a moment. As I felt the urge to snap the above photo I found myself suddenly quite reflective.  Nariko and I met as models in AVENUE’s Model Academy, and our friendship has blossomed beautifully since.  Even before VISIONAIRE was a reality, she took it upon herself to teach me about SL photography, improved my photo taking abilities exponentially, and made me love location shooting.  I value her and our friendship so much and I feel so lucky to have her in my life.

When I was shooting for Style Kingdom, I shared with Pam that being published like this was one of my biggest SL modeling dreams.  I fought hard to earn my place among the talented models of Style Kingdom and felt once I had won the 2nd public casting that I had finally “arrived.”  So this issue has a very special place in my heart.  I have to thank all of the judges again who were a part of both castings, but namely Dougie for putting me through the most rigorous styling challenges I had ever faced as a young model.  I grew so much through that series of castings, his very honest critiques pushing me to grow as a model and stylist.  Through those castings I also got to meet Pam and Kiana…incredibly supportive and encouraging women who made the journey all the better.  So thank you Style Kingdom, for challenging me and welcoming me as a full fledged model. I look forward to a long relationship with you.

Thank you for reading and allowing me to share a bit more of me with you.

Newness

Hello Readers!

As various projects clear up for me I am able to once more turn my attention to the designers (and events) that have hired me as one of their bloggers.  I am happy to share that just before I got super busy, two fabulous designers added me to their blogger families.  One is 7 Deadly S{k}ins and the other is HopScotch.  So today I feature a lil of both plus a touch of Fantasy Gacha.  I received so many wonderful items from the creative designers partaking in the Carnival, there is no way I could blog it all, but I am trying my best to share as much of the gacha goodness with you as I can!

100513_001I have to address the wall decoration first.  It is from HopScotch and any Harry Potter fans out there would immediately recognize the symbol as The Deathly Hallows, the three magical objects supposedly created by Death and given to each of three brothers.  They consisted of the Elder Wand, the Resurrection Stone, and the Cloak of Invisibility. Have I mentioned I LOVE Harry Potter?? *chuckles*  This well made wall adornment also comes in black.

100513_003I had to spotlight these fun Slink nails from the Deluxe Body Factory which are a goodie at the Fantasy Gacha Carnival this month.  I have recently started a love affair with Slink hands and feet and I adore fun and quirky nails to apply to my hands.  So these were just the ticket!  The ones I have on feature the silhouette of a tree against an orange background.   Since my raw photo won’t do them justice, I have included the vendor ad for you to enjoy.

100513_002My love affair with Slink hands and feet is further encouraged by stockings!  Chandni is always coming up with wonderful things and when I saw these I HAD to try them.  I have on black from the “vibrant” set which also includes blue, green, orange, purple, red, turquoise, and yellow.  There is also a “pastel” set that includes aqua, green, lavender, mint, peach, pink, white, and yellow.

100513_004And of course there is the lovely skin by Izara Zuta of 7 Deadly S{k}ins.  She has been quite busy creating new skins for various events and this is only one of them.  I will be blogging more of her well detailed skins in upcoming posts.

Style Kingdom Magazine Casting: Styling Challenge #1

Hello Readers!

I just had to squeeze in another post before my RL makes off with me again!  Thankfully I took the photos for this blog post last week so I can write about them now!

Style Kingdom Magazine is currently casting for a new model for its pages.  This casting is different than others I have encountered because they are looking for new/inexperienced models. I graduated from AVENUE Models Academy this past July, so I wasn’t certain I would qualify as the casting notice said modeling certificates were not required.  I was glad to learn that my shiny new certificate did not disqualify me. I just don’t have the time some do to attend academy after academy, and I felt AVENUE’s classes more than prepared me for the world of SL fashion.  So modeling certificate aside, my modeling resume is pretty short compared to many.  However, I am working it and trying to get myself out there and on the runway, so I am sure that won’t be the case for long!

One of the things I enjoyed about my AVENUE classes was the homework.  I thought this was mainly due to me being an educator and a nerd in RL who actually enjoys homework.  I realized as I spent hours painstakingly analyzing my styling and second guessing myself, that I enjoyed the creative process of styling challenges.  Second Life was just the medium I needed to express my own creativity.  I am no builder or designer – I am a writer, a role player and a model.  SL has helped me achieve things I never thought I would be able to in RL, become a published writer, an actress (via role play), and fulfill my childhood dream of being a model.

I apparently am also the queen of tangents!  So let’s get to the styling shall we?  The challenge was “Asian Invasion.”  I LOVED this theme!  I immediately got to searching and talking with my sister/stylist/confidant Liat.  In the end, this is what emerged:

Overall I was pleased with the result and it appeared the judges were as well!  You can read the public scoring here.  The second challenge was “Film Noir.”  This one proved to be a bit more of a challenge for me and I deliberated over it as I do with each of my stylings.  In the end I was pleased with it as well and will be blogging it soon!

Thanks for reading!

I really enjoyed the sense of movement the sweater has.

Love the cascading fabric effect on the sweater and the cap has a hud where you have a few funky and fun texture options.
