Colour of Couture: DSquared2 Challenge

Hello Readers!

There was another Colour of Couture Runway Challenge today and this time our challenge was to style inspired by the Spring/Summer 2014 Collection of twin brother designers Dean and Dan Caten of DSquared2.  We were asked to write a couple of paragraphs about our inspiration for the styling, so here is the look I came up with, my thoughts on it, and the credits.

My Inspiration:
After doing my research on DSquared2, I found that their Spring/Summer 2014 collection was geared toward the pool side and inspired by the 1950s with bold, shapely dresses, and svelte swimsuits. Sexy “Bond Girl”-esque hair and large glamorous hats were a must as well, not to mention vibrant colors and prints, as well as animal prints, neutrals, and pastels.  I found that the DSquared2 SS 2014 collection really has much to offer the discerning fashionista.

As for me personally, I found there was a lot of fun to be had in exploring the trends housed in this collection.  I immediately gravitated toward the fifties inspiration and wanted to capture it in the high waisted shorts and modest heel.  I enjoyed the playfulness of pattern and color and went with some of the pastels which are a trend for the Spring/Summer 2014 season.  When it came to the hat, I wanted one in a similar shape as the collection, but one with it’s own flair to add to the fun of the entire look.

I always enjoy seeing what the other candidates bring to the table with their interpretations and I was not let down.  I think as a group we did a fine job of representing all the elements of the DSquared2 Spring/Summer 2014 Collection.  Well done ladies!

This was a last competition challenge before the finale and I can’t believe the journey is nearly done.  I will be sharing one additional surprise Colour of Couture photo challenge with you all as soon as I have clearance to do so, so mums the word! In the mean time however, I wanted to express just how much I have enjoyed this whole competition.  No matter the outcome we are all winners and I know I don’t just speak for myself when I say the entire experience has been an enjoyable one.

Opium’s Gatsby

Hello Readers!

One of the events that has kept me rather busy of late is Opium Evolution’s Gatsby. I am thrilled to be a part of this amazing production.  I greatly enjoyed Opium’s Halloween production and I knew I just had to be a part of this agency.  Ana invited me to join Opium soon there after and I couldn’t be happier! Her shows really are like nothing else, and I affectionately call them Fashion Theater.  I do rather miss SL theater as I used to be involved with The Jewell Theater in SL, and I know that desire to perform on stage fuels my desire to be on the runway…but as usual I digress.  Opium’s latest production is “Gatsby” and it includes 18 amazing designers and Gatsby-inspired exclusives.

Opium's Gatsby

The first part of the show is a Donna Flora tribute and I am honored to be a part.  I was too new to the SL modeling scene when Squinternet passed, but I know she touched so many deeply and is sorely missed.  I am very glad to be a part of the tribute to such a well loved and missed designer.

My second outfit is a dress by Prism.  I love the loose feel of it and the way it gives the feeling of silky fabric flowing over my body.  I adore the high/low hemline and the back…RAWR!  I just had to accent it with a backlace by Maxi Gossamer.

So I was a bit jealous to see that Dead Dollz was a featured designer and I didn’t get the lovely work of Kiddo to style with for the show.  That feeling didn’t last long however as all the designs are available in the boardwalk across from the Gatsby mansion where the show takes place.  Before I could go shopping however, Kiddo delivered the exclusives to her blogger group and I was so excited!

Chasing Koko

Hello Readers!

I think I am giddy because I have had a LONG and mildly stressful week in RL thanks to work and it is FRIDAY!  I love looking at my friends’ Flickr streams and appreciating their work.  I came across one by my dear friend (and sim-mate) Nariko and I was inspired to mimic her.  Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery right? *winks*  Here is Nariko’s (aka Koko) image, posted today in honor of the latest issue of Style Kingdom, which is the debut for both of us in this wonderful publication. Click HERE to see Nariko and click HERE to see me…we both had the pleasure of being photographed by the very talented Pam Astonia. So here is my rendition, done in what I affectionately call “Koko Style.” (I hope you can see by now that my legacy name was not completely off base! *chuckles*)

I need to get sappy for a moment. As I felt the urge to snap the above photo I found myself suddenly quite reflective.  Nariko and I met as models in AVENUE’s Model Academy, and our friendship has blossomed beautifully since.  Even before VISIONAIRE was a reality, she took it upon herself to teach me about SL photography, improved my photo taking abilities exponentially, and made me love location shooting.  I value her and our friendship so much and I feel so lucky to have her in my life.

When I was shooting for Style Kingdom, I shared with Pam that being published like this was one of my biggest SL modeling dreams.  I fought hard to earn my place among the talented models of Style Kingdom and felt once I had won the 2nd public casting that I had finally “arrived.”  So this issue has a very special place in my heart.  I have to thank all of the judges again who were a part of both castings, but namely Dougie for putting me through the most rigorous styling challenges I had ever faced as a young model.  I grew so much through that series of castings, his very honest critiques pushing me to grow as a model and stylist.  Through those castings I also got to meet Pam and Kiana…incredibly supportive and encouraging women who made the journey all the better.  So thank you Style Kingdom, for challenging me and welcoming me as a full fledged model. I look forward to a long relationship with you.

Thank you for reading and allowing me to share a bit more of me with you.

Me, myself and I

School has started again for me in RL, so my time for styling and blogging has been greatly reduced. *sad face*  I have found both to be a wonderful creative outlet for me.  So now that it is the weekend I figured I had better let out all my pent up creativity!  I decided to make over one of my avatars that I have used in roleplay.  I went back and forth on whether or not to do something completely different on Silly, and decided my other avi was overdue for a make over and I felt I could really do anything I wanted to her.  Whereas with Silly she has a certain look I want to maintain and I am slow to change skins once I really enjoy one.  So I brought out my Melanie avatar (named after me in RL :)) and took her to The Dressing Room. This was the result!

Lady in Flowers

Today I slipped on a lovely summer dress by Romy Dash of Marshmallows.  It is called “Lady” and I chose to wear the “flowers” version.  I have found my fashion palette is rather diverse and I enjoy looking and feeling pretty just as much as I enjoy pushing the envelope.  As I was sorting my inventory and praising myself for purchases I forgot I made, I came across the hair in this photo I am pretty certain I picked up at the hair fair.  I love all the soft curls and the romantic feel of it.  It comes with a color change hud which gives a lot of opportunity for variation.  So once I saw Romy’s dress I knew I had just the hair for it!

Amarelo Manga

Amarelo Manga is having an open casting for print models and being as I am fresh onto the modeling scene I had to enter!  I loved their line of swimwear and found it appealed to the island girl in me.  (I am Puerto Rican, though born and raised on the mainland United States.)  Enjoy tropical flavors, which is what guided my selection of items from Amarelo Manga.  Wish me luck in the competition! 😉
