New Horizons

Hello Readers!

I have been aching to blog so much more than I have of late, but there is only so much time in the day!  RL & SL have gotten very demanding, but I did that to myself and I enjoy the things I am involved in in both worlds.

This weekend was a big one for me.  Not only did I have Colour of Couture’s Charity Challenge, I had SCALA Models Academy graduation which was SCALA’s first official production.  I was thrilled not only to be invited to be a model for SCALA, but asked to be a part of the staff and the graduation show contained a bit of my work as a script writer, as well as that of my very talented sis Liat Reina.  My congratulations go out to all the talented new SCALA graduates!  I so enjoyed watching them tear up the runway! Then there was the VISIONAIRE Graduation Exhibit, which was the culmination of my SL photography classes.  I cannot say enough how unique an experience this was, and how much it helped me to grow as an SL photographer.  I still have a lot to learn, but what I can do now, as compared to before VISIONAIRE, is simply incredible to me. Learning from Nariko and Wren was amazing, and the other VISIONAIRE trainees were so very supportive and inspiring.  I have really experienced nothing else quite like it in SL.

Silly's CoC Practice

The photo above comes courtesy of my sweet sis Liat.  Words cannot express the extent of my feelings for her. She was a wonderful audience for me as I practiced for the Charity Challenge and gave me much constructive criticism and feedback.

The gist of the challenge was to propose a charity event that I would make a reality if selected to be Miss Colour of Couture.  For me, the choice of charities was simple, Guide Dogs of America (GDA). I have been involved with GDA for several years and have served as a volunteer puppy raiser, raising three wonderful dogs for them.  There is something about the amazing ways animals can help us and those with disabilities that touch me deeply.  As I prepared for this challenge I realized that my charity might be a bit too regional to appeal to the very global community of Second Life.  So I did a bit of research and discovered Assistance Dogs International (ADI), a coalition of non-profit assistance and service dog organizations that hail from around the globe.  I was thrilled to learn the GDA was a part of this coalition.  So my proposal was for a charity event in SL that would benefit ADI and in turn all of its member organizations.

In case you are interested in the text on Liat’s photo, there is an ongoing joke amongst the CoC candidates that stems from my inability to type “high-5” as “^5.”  Apparently I have an aversion to hitting those keys right and my ^5 comes out 6%. *laughs*  I love it when the CoC candidates 6% each other.  It really makes me smile and gives me a good laugh.  That just doesn’t get old.  I can’t speak highly enough about the other candidates.  They are a fine group of ladies and I am so very pleased to be competing with them.

I can’t post a photo and not credit it if I am able. In Liat’s photo my outfit is called “Don’t Hold Your Breath” from Liv Glam and was a part of the recent Style Icon Fashion Fair. My hair is from Tram, and shoes were “Maggie” a heel available for Fifty Linden Fridays for Slink High Feet by .fri.  My dog is Manticore and the slide projector and screen are by Seven Emporium.  I LOVE this slide projector and I was sooooo excited to do an actual slide show in SL.  It has been AGES since I had done one and I had soooo much fun making the slides for it.

Immediately following my Charity Challenge was SCALA Model’s Academy’s graduation.  Congratulations to Danity Mynx, Trouble Dethly, Winter Zhukovsky, LolaPandora, LuceMia, Deborah Vos, Leezah Kaddour, Sungyoung, Zoomy Bluebird, Christopher Law, Aely White, AliceAmber, and PetraAlexander!

As a part of my final for VISIONAIRE I was tasked with photographing two of the SCALA trainees.

Danity Profile

I first met Danity Mynx as a Glam Girl contestant for Liv Glam.  I thought her styling for that contest was fun and creative and I had to get to know her.  We have been friends ever since and I was thrilled to be assigned to take her photograph.

Trouble Profile

Trouble Dethly I recall seeing at the 2nd public casting for Style Kingdom Magazine.  He stood out to me mainly because of his name.  Like my own avi name I found it amusing.  I didn’t say anything to him then primarily because I didn’t want it to appear I was hitting on him or flirting in some way.  I was pleased to get to know him better since and know that he doesn’t consider me a scary stranger anymore. *chuckles*

Please visit my Flickr to see the rest of the photos I took of these very special and talented models.

VISIONAIRE GRADUATE EXHIBITION

Lastly there is the VISIONAIRE graduate exhibition.  I have never taken so many photos in such a short time as I did with this final!  I LOVED it though and truly enjoyed setting up a gallery to exhibit my work.  I still cannot believe that it is over and that Nariko and Wren consider me a colleague instead of a student.  I was honored from the start that even without photography experience Nariko would have me as the VISIONAIRE manager, assisting her and Wren with managing the institute and its students.

Sophie Profile

The above is my version of Sophie.  The shape was one given to all of us…the exact same no modify shape.  We could then do with it what we would.  I put on a beautiful skin by Izara Zutka of 7 Deadly S{k}ins called Tina B3b and told my story of Sophie. I wanted to tell a tragic love story, and the story that emerged was loosely based on Dante’s Divine Comedy and the story of Francesca and Paolo. If you visit my gallery you will see a sign at the entry that gives out some bonus information.  I also have a guest book, so please do sign it.

The jewelry in the photo is Polly by Mandala, the gown is Free Romance – Frozen by Living Imagination, the hair is Amita by EMO-tions, the eyes are IKON Eternal Eyes in Hazel, and the makeup is Wrath M1 DEF by 7 Deadly S{k}ins.

There are currently two exhibitions.  One is on the same sim as the SCALA graduation, and the other is on the SCALA/Visionaire home land.  You can see the press release and get SLurls to both if you visit Nariko’s blog post.

So I think I have caught you up on the latest.  Oh, there is one more thing! Coming up this Saturday, April 19th at 1pm SLT is SCALA’s 2nd production…a LivGlam fashion show and it is my first time serving as a producer, so I am very excited!  More info to come on that show very soon, but do mark your calendars!

Thank you for reading!
