Hello Readers!

Today I am indulging in responding to Berry’s latest meme: “My Blogging Journey.

  1. Which electronic devices do you use to blog with? I mainly use my desktop pc.  I have blogged from my iPad before and didn’t care for it too much.  I don’t mind the WordPress app though, I just prefer blogging from the comfort of home.
  2. Do you have a mission statement for your blog, if so, what is it? A mission statement?  I had never considered an official mission statement.  Being a business major in college I find the notion of a mission statement rather formal.  I started this blog as a rather public online journal of my adventures in SL.  Since becoming active in the SL fashion community I have refined the intentions of my blog with more of a fashion slant, but ultimately it is still a place for me to be who I am and share my thoughts on things with any who care to read.  I have really enjoyed becoming a part of the virtual blogging community and seeing all the ways we as individuals express ourselves in writing, photography, styling, and design.
  3. How do you feel about blogs that use their platforms to spread negativity? I always cringe when I see negative posts and I certainly don’t seek them out.  I think those whose sole purpose for blogging is to publicly shame or attack another are wrong.  I understand there are instances where a blogger may blog in a negative way on account of some incident in which there was a wrong done, but that is still a very gray area for me that I generally try to avoid.  I consider myself a positive person and I like for my blog to reflect that.  Do I have moments where someone or something has irritated me?  I certainly do.  I however don’t see the benefit of taking to my blog to air out everything that irritates me.
  4. Are you a grammar junkie? Do you thoroughly check your blog for errors before posting and/or do you judge other people’s posts if they contain errors? I am an educator and teach children how to write, so YES I am a grammar junkie and read my post several times before clicking publish and then read it a few more times after that! As for the posts of others, a few mistakes here and there happen, a post full of them is a huge turn off for me.  I won’t be able to continue reading a badly worded post because the errors will become overwhelmingly distracting for me.
  5. If you could switch blogs with another blogger who would it be? There are many blogs out there I am certainly envious of, but as for switching with someone?  Not so much.  I do my best and I aspire to be as good as several out there and only time and practice can get me there so I keep plugging on!
  6. Has your blog/blogging style evolved over the year(s)? How? I feel as though my blog has improved with time and can only continue to get better.  My photos are worlds better thanks to Nariko Okawa, WrenNoir Cerise and VISIONAIRE.  My styling has improved as I continue to explore and refine my fashion voice as a model. There is always something to learn and always ways to improve.
  7. What is the most extraordinary thing that has happened to you because of blogging? Due to my blogging here I have been able to transfer the skills and competencies I have learned here to my RL blogging.  I still blog much more here than I do on the RL side of things, but that I primarily a time issue.  I can only blog so much!
  8. When it comes to Second Life blogs, there are different styles: Fashion bloggers, Lifestyle & Travel bloggers, Informative bloggers, and more. Which style do you prefer and where do you feel your blog fits in? Since becoming a more regular blogger the majority of my posts have to do with fashion so that would make me a fashion blogger by default. I do write about other things from time to time so perhaps that allows me into the Lifestyle Blogger category on occasion.  I have been in SL long enough to be informative, but so many out there do that much better than I could so I mainly stick to fashion blogging and sharing my thoughts on whatever strikes my fancy.
  9. What has blogging taught you? Blogging has taught me a new way to express myself.  It has given me an outlet that I have long sought as a writer and aspiring photographer.  It is a way for me to be creative that I enjoy very much.
  10. Share your top 3 tips for new bloggers. Read lots of blogs.  Decide on your style and be original. Always be open to new experiences and information.

New Horizons

Hello Readers!

I have been aching to blog so much more than I have of late, but there is only so much time in the day!  RL & SL have gotten very demanding, but I did that to myself and I enjoy the things I am involved in in both worlds.

This weekend was a big one for me.  Not only did I have Colour of Couture’s Charity Challenge, I had SCALA Models Academy graduation which was SCALA’s first official production.  I was thrilled not only to be invited to be a model for SCALA, but asked to be a part of the staff and the graduation show contained a bit of my work as a script writer, as well as that of my very talented sis Liat Reina.  My congratulations go out to all the talented new SCALA graduates!  I so enjoyed watching them tear up the runway! Then there was the VISIONAIRE Graduation Exhibit, which was the culmination of my SL photography classes.  I cannot say enough how unique an experience this was, and how much it helped me to grow as an SL photographer.  I still have a lot to learn, but what I can do now, as compared to before VISIONAIRE, is simply incredible to me. Learning from Nariko and Wren was amazing, and the other VISIONAIRE trainees were so very supportive and inspiring.  I have really experienced nothing else quite like it in SL.

Silly's CoC Practice

The photo above comes courtesy of my sweet sis Liat.  Words cannot express the extent of my feelings for her. She was a wonderful audience for me as I practiced for the Charity Challenge and gave me much constructive criticism and feedback.

The gist of the challenge was to propose a charity event that I would make a reality if selected to be Miss Colour of Couture.  For me, the choice of charities was simple, Guide Dogs of America (GDA). I have been involved with GDA for several years and have served as a volunteer puppy raiser, raising three wonderful dogs for them.  There is something about the amazing ways animals can help us and those with disabilities that touch me deeply.  As I prepared for this challenge I realized that my charity might be a bit too regional to appeal to the very global community of Second Life.  So I did a bit of research and discovered Assistance Dogs International (ADI), a coalition of non-profit assistance and service dog organizations that hail from around the globe.  I was thrilled to learn the GDA was a part of this coalition.  So my proposal was for a charity event in SL that would benefit ADI and in turn all of its member organizations.

In case you are interested in the text on Liat’s photo, there is an ongoing joke amongst the CoC candidates that stems from my inability to type “high-5” as “^5.”  Apparently I have an aversion to hitting those keys right and my ^5 comes out 6%. *laughs*  I love it when the CoC candidates 6% each other.  It really makes me smile and gives me a good laugh.  That just doesn’t get old.  I can’t speak highly enough about the other candidates.  They are a fine group of ladies and I am so very pleased to be competing with them.

I can’t post a photo and not credit it if I am able. In Liat’s photo my outfit is called “Don’t Hold Your Breath” from Liv Glam and was a part of the recent Style Icon Fashion Fair. My hair is from Tram, and shoes were “Maggie” a heel available for Fifty Linden Fridays for Slink High Feet by .fri.  My dog is Manticore and the slide projector and screen are by Seven Emporium.  I LOVE this slide projector and I was sooooo excited to do an actual slide show in SL.  It has been AGES since I had done one and I had soooo much fun making the slides for it.

Immediately following my Charity Challenge was SCALA Model’s Academy’s graduation.  Congratulations to Danity Mynx, Trouble Dethly, Winter Zhukovsky, LolaPandora, LuceMia, Deborah Vos, Leezah Kaddour, Sungyoung, Zoomy Bluebird, Christopher Law, Aely White, AliceAmber, and PetraAlexander!

As a part of my final for VISIONAIRE I was tasked with photographing two of the SCALA trainees.

Danity Profile

I first met Danity Mynx as a Glam Girl contestant for Liv Glam.  I thought her styling for that contest was fun and creative and I had to get to know her.  We have been friends ever since and I was thrilled to be assigned to take her photograph.

Trouble Profile

Trouble Dethly I recall seeing at the 2nd public casting for Style Kingdom Magazine.  He stood out to me mainly because of his name.  Like my own avi name I found it amusing.  I didn’t say anything to him then primarily because I didn’t want it to appear I was hitting on him or flirting in some way.  I was pleased to get to know him better since and know that he doesn’t consider me a scary stranger anymore. *chuckles*

Please visit my Flickr to see the rest of the photos I took of these very special and talented models.

VISIONAIRE GRADUATE EXHIBITION

Lastly there is the VISIONAIRE graduate exhibition.  I have never taken so many photos in such a short time as I did with this final!  I LOVED it though and truly enjoyed setting up a gallery to exhibit my work.  I still cannot believe that it is over and that Nariko and Wren consider me a colleague instead of a student.  I was honored from the start that even without photography experience Nariko would have me as the VISIONAIRE manager, assisting her and Wren with managing the institute and its students.

Sophie Profile

The above is my version of Sophie.  The shape was one given to all of us…the exact same no modify shape.  We could then do with it what we would.  I put on a beautiful skin by Izara Zutka of 7 Deadly S{k}ins called Tina B3b and told my story of Sophie. I wanted to tell a tragic love story, and the story that emerged was loosely based on Dante’s Divine Comedy and the story of Francesca and Paolo. If you visit my gallery you will see a sign at the entry that gives out some bonus information.  I also have a guest book, so please do sign it.

The jewelry in the photo is Polly by Mandala, the gown is Free Romance – Frozen by Living Imagination, the hair is Amita by EMO-tions, the eyes are IKON Eternal Eyes in Hazel, and the makeup is Wrath M1 DEF by 7 Deadly S{k}ins.

There are currently two exhibitions.  One is on the same sim as the SCALA graduation, and the other is on the SCALA/Visionaire home land.  You can see the press release and get SLurls to both if you visit Nariko’s blog post.

So I think I have caught you up on the latest.  Oh, there is one more thing! Coming up this Saturday, April 19th at 1pm SLT is SCALA’s 2nd production…a LivGlam fashion show and it is my first time serving as a producer, so I am very excited!  More info to come on that show very soon, but do mark your calendars!

Colour of Couture…the Journey Continues!

Hello Readers!

RL & SL have certainly kept me busy of late!  I am back though and wanted to share another reason my blog posts haven’t been coming as frequently…it is a very good reason actually.  I am enjoying being a contestant in Colour of Couture.  Styling challenges are something I have enjoyed since my very first modeling classes.  Today I am sharing with you two of my most recent Color of Couture stylings.

The first was for Earth Hour an event hosted by Amazing Impressions Modeling agency that spotlighted the need for all of us all to be united in protecting our planet.

Earth Hour - Silly Avro - cropped

I was fortunate to be selected as one of 60 models to have an Earth Hour inspired look taken by the talented Marcopol Oh.  I am wearing “Earth” by Boudoir and “Oceane” by {MUA}. (above)

CoC Cosmo

Colour of Couture gave us the challenge of styling in the theme of cosmo couture, highlighting green and blues, and considering Earth Hour.  It was a very tricky challenge, and after doing my research on cosmo couture I arrived at the genre had to do with designing looks with unconventional materials…and quite often building and interior design materials.  So once I understood that, I began putting together my look.  I fell in love with these bits of crashed satellite I acquired from The Grim Bros., I visited one of my favorites (Chrysalis) for the one legged jumpsuit, added some hosiery from Erratic, fun hair from Ploom, sexy make up from Nuuna (neck) and {MUA} (full face).  My arm bands are recent releases from my SL Mom’s store On A Lark, my necklace a former Collabor88 item from Yummy, and the colorful bracelets were a Fifty Linden Friday find from Erratic. Oh and I can’t forget the awesome claw boots from Wicca’s Wardrobe.  I was just looking for a reason to wear them and this seemed it!

Silly Baroque

Our most recent challenge was to style inspired by Thom Browne. I had a good deal of fun with this one.  I have never been asked to style baroque before (or cosmo couture for that matter) so it was an exciting thing to dig into.  After doing my research, I found that Thom Browne uses a variety of materials in his designs, one of the most notable rubber/latex.  I used a Graves latex catsuit as a base and built from there.  I knew once again Collabor88 would be my best friend, providing just the right pair of heeled Oxfords.  I added a cute pair of slink enabled socks, and for a pop of color a sexy red skirt from The Plastik.  When it came to the baroque part I looked around a bit, one of my frequent stops being Bare Rose.  The white skirt, corset, and top came from there, I added a fun HUD driven cameo and set the image to “death”, added some hair I found at The Big Show by Little Bones (who are new to me…I love when that happens).  My make up is a combination of {MUA}, The Plastik, and Buzz Essentials. I added a fun lil Dia De Los Muertes black rose…complete with skull, thorns, spiders, and webs as a personal reference to the Latina in me, and added cobwebs to my hair.  I couldn’t resist Remarkable Oblivion’s cat purse to bring a bit more crazy to my Thom Browne inspired baroque.

So there you have it.  A bit of why I have been so quiet on my blog, but I don’t intend for that to always be the case. I enjoy blogging and will continue to share the latest and greatest from the designers who have taken me on as well as things I find around the grid I think you might enjoy.

Thank you for reading!
